Despite the curfew that restricted the movement of people in Zangon Kataf, Kaura and Jema’a local government areas following the incessant killings, about three people were reportedly killed in Samaru Kataf, Zangon Kataf LGA of Kaduna State by suspected herdsmen.

The attack followed a letter purportedly written by Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association (MACBAN), Kaduna State chapter dated 10 Jan, 2017 of possible attack by the group in Samaru Kataf of Zangon Kataf local government area.

The purported letter was said to have been widely circulated in the social media. The letter which carried MACBAN Kaduna state chapter letterhead with the text written in Hausa language, specifically said they would attack Ugwan Gaiya and Mabushi in Zangon Kataf local government area in no distant time.

While the attack was ongoing, Kaduna State government restored the 24-hour curfew it had already relaxed in the three local government areas.

“A government announcement said the 24-hour curfew is with immediate effect, from tonight, Tuesday, 17 January 2017, until further notice,” the statement reads.

According to the government statement signed by Samuel Aruwan, the restoration of the curfew follows renewed security threats in Samaru-Kataf where the market was attacked by hoodlums.

“Security forces have taken steps to restore calm and vigorously enforce the curfew,” the statement said.

Government urges that all citizens should cooperate with the security forces as they restore peace and order.
