Kaduna State Governor Nasir Ahmad El-rufai has said his government stopped the free school feeding because parents and guardians of pupils said they preferred provision of social amenities as they can feed their children wards.
He also stressed that the state could not sustain the programme as promised due to the large chunk of resources being expended on it monthly.
Speaking on Media Chart on selected radio station in Kaduna Wednesday evening, he said over eight billion naira (N8B) was spent on the programme before halting it.he stressed that the federal government is the owing the state over six billion naira (N6B) as its counterpart fund just as the population of the pupils increased from 1.8 million to 2.5 million pupils.
He assured that they are waiting for the federal government commence the repayment of the counterpart fund to resume the programme.
