Acting Vice Chancellor of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Ogbomoso (LAUTECH), Prof Razaq Olatunde Rom Kalilu, on Monday, disclosed that no fewer than 153 graduands of the university are graduating with the first class degrees
Prof Kalilu made this known in Ogbomoso, while speaking at the 16th convocation ceremonies of the University for the 2022/2023 Academic Session
Disclosing that the institution will continue to run it’s dynamic academic programmes, the acting Vice Chancellor stated that the graduands are products of two separate sessions due to the instability in the academic calendar experienced prior to the 15th convocation last year, as there were 4,569 spill-over graduating students of the 2021-2022 session.
” A total 8,533 graduands will be awarded with first degrees on Monday, April 21, 2024, while 153 graduands out of the total 8,533 are in the first class category, 2,057 graduands out of the total numbers of the graduands graduated in second-class upper category, 2,762 graduands are in the second-class lower category, 828 graduands are in third-class category, 33 graduands are in pass category”, he said
The Acting Vice Chancellor added, ” For the degree in Medicine and Surgery, there are four graduands in the pass category, while for the Nursing and Science there are 1,545 graduands with credit pass and 154 graduands in pass categories.”
“It is noteworthy that Oladoja Israel Ololade who is graduating with a CGPA of 4.86 from the department of Chemical Engineering with a Faculty of Engineering and Technology is the overall best graduating student and he will be so awarded the prize as we proceed this convocation ceremonies.”
Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of LAUTECH Governing Council, Prof Ayodeji Omole in his remarks urged the graduands not to see themselves as ‘ just graduates of LAUTECH but ambassadors of knowledge, integrity, excellence, service and progress,”.
” Today marks a significant milestone in the lives of our graduands as they transit from students to alumni, on their way to embark on new journeys to conquer new frontiers. Your hard work, dedication and perseverance have brought you to this momentous occasion and we cannot but rejoice with you”, he said .
Prof Omole added, ‘You have overcome challenges, embraced opportunities and demonstrated the true spirit of academic excellence and integrity. That is the reason why you can stand tall today, robbing shoulders with your colleagues to celebrate the outcome of your hard work and perseverance.”
“As you receive your degrees, remember that you are not just graduates of LAUTECH but ambassadors of knowledge, integrity, excellence, service and progress, all that your University stands for, carry the torch of the learning with pride and let your actions speak volumes about the caliber of education you have received.”
Prof Omole expressed sincere gratitude and deep appreciation to Gov Seyi Makinde for giving him and other members of the University Governing Council the opportunity to serve in an environment devoid of intimidation or coercion,
” Gov Makinde has given us free hands to navigate affairs of the University to the best of our God given strength and ability. We eternally grateful to you sir, however we still look forward to your continuous financial and other supports for the University”
The overall best graduating student Master Oladoja Israel Ololade in a chat with journalists attributed his achievement to dedication and commitment to studies, saying, ” I give God Almighty the glory for making it possible for me to achieve this great. I also thank my parents for their supports and their prayers over me.”
“I dedicated at least seven hours to person studies and research on daily basis, apart from the daily activities on campus which includes lecturing and other stuffs, I have to shun other social vices that can affect my personal studies as I don’t really like reading during the night but I engaged in personal studies from 8pm to 12 midnight, so I can wake up by 4am to study till 8am or 7:30 before going for lectures, I’m so happy, I never think of becoming the overall best graduating student because I didn’t really do well in my hundred level, but that really made me to put in all my best and I really thank God that at the end everything worked out fine for me.”
