Support NCC In Fighting Piracy, Other Vices,  DG Urges Media Practitioners

The Director General (DG) of Nigeria Copyright Commission, (NCC), Dr. John Asein on Wednesday, called on the Nigerian media to join the commission in the fight against piracy in the country 

Dr Asein made the call in Ibadan, while speaking at a media parley held at the Oyo State NUJ Press centre, Iyaganku.

The NCC DG emphasized that the fight could not be carried out successfully without the active support of the media in and across the nation.

In doing this, Dr Asein hinted of the  plan by the commission to form a Special Monitoring Squad in collaboration with the media to checkmate the activities of book pirates and perpetrators of other related vices in the industry.

” The role of the media is being underplayed in our society. Media remains a critical stakeholders in democratic setting The NCC cannot function effectively without the support of the media hence the need for collaboration”, he said.

Dr Asein added, ” We are ready to go into partnership with the Nigeria media in the formation of a Special Monitoring Squad for effective policing”

The NCC DG stressed further that 

the fight against piracy could not be carried out without the support of the media, hence the need for their support.

He expressed the Commission’s readiness to enter into partnership with the media in the formation of a Special Monitoring Squad for the enforcement of Piracy and other laws as enshrined in the Constitution.

Welcoming the NCC DG to the Oyo state NUJ Press centre, the Oyo NUJ Chairman, Chief Ademola Babalola assured Dr Asein of the union members readiness to support the commission in the fight against book piracy and other vices.

The Oyo NUJ Chairman stressed the need to fight the menace of book piracy and other vices in our society to make it better.
