Volleyball Zone 3: Team In High Spirit As 12 U-21 Girls Depart For Niger

Nigeria’s representatives to Niamey, capital of Niger Republic departed the prestigious Ahmadu Bello Stadium Kaduna on Sunday July 2, 2023 in high spirits.

Our correspondent who was there to witness their departure, reports that they were all revved up and roaring to succeed as they bade farewell to a team of officials from the Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF).

In an interview with sports writers at the departure venue, Technical Director NVBF, Mr. Martins Melandi explained that they have been in camp for three weeks in preparation for Africa Zone 3 Competition in Niger Republic.

“Today they are departing Kaduna for Niamey.

“We have been in camp in preparation and played some friendly matches,” he said.

According to him, a total of 17 persons comprise the team.

“We have 12 Players, three coaches, one media, one referee and a head of delegation,” he explained.

According to him, Nigerians should expect nothing short of a top notch performance from the young lads.

“From what I saw, they are technically sound. They will compete with all countries in West Africa. The arrival is July 3, while the competition runs till 10th,” he said.

Also speaking, Female Head Coach, Rakiya Mohammed for U-21 team, said that the girls have been drilled and are ready to deliver.

“We are departing today. From what you are seeing from the girls, you know their spirit is high.

“The NVBF President, Engineer Musa Nimrod has ensured all the welfare of the players,” she said.

According to her, if they win, they will win a ticket to participate in World Championship in Thailand.

“These girls you are seeing, they are not actually U-21 but U-19 because their championship is coming up in Croatia, so we are using this to further prepare them,” she added.

Captain of the team, 17-year old Kelechi Ndukauba said that she is confident they will excel because they worked hard while training.

“We want Nigerians to pray for us and we will ensure that we make them proud,” she assured.
