Press Week: Lagos NUJ Defeats NIJ As NIPR Shines Over NAWOJ In Football

As part of efforts to celebrate the Press Week of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Lagos Council, novelty matches were played in the premises of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ) Ogba, on Tuesday in Lagos.
The NIPR Image Boosters defeated the NAWOJIANS Strikers by 5-0, while Lagos NUJ team won their NIJ counterparts with a lone goal.
The novelty matches brought Lagos journalists under one roof, as members interacted closely with one another.
The four teams which included NAWOJ, NIPR, NUJ AND NIJ were commended, while a trophy each was presented to the teams for their commitment.
Speaking at the event, Lagos NUJ Chiarman, Mr. Adeleye Ajayi said he was happy with the outcome of the games.
“I sincerely want to appreciate the Press Week Committee for coming up with this great idea.The novelty matches gave members the opportunity to spend quality time with one another despite their tight schedules, ” Ajayi said.
He noted that such event would help members to stay fit
“I must confess that all the four teams played very well, however, there’s bound to be a winner and a loser,” he said.
Also in attendance were, Mr Gbenga Adefaye, Provost of the NIJ, Mrs Comfort Nwankwo; Chairman, Lagos Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations and others.
The NUJ Lagos Council Press Week began with a Media Briefing on Friday and  Health Walk on Monday.
Members  took a walk from the Computer Village axis of Ikeja to the Ministry of Information and Strategy, Alausa, Ikeja and then moved to the temporary office of NUJ located within the Premises of Lagos Television (LTV), Agidingbi, Ikeja.
The Health Walk witnessed a huge turnout by members of the Lagos Council of NUJ.
Reacting to the Health Walk, Mr Wale Akodu, Chairman, Press Week Committee, affirmed that Journalists were known to be very busy people and as a result, there was need for members to be physically fit to stay healthy.  “I wish to emphatically state that it is expected of members to do all within their reach to stay healthy, and one of such ways is through exercise.
“I am also happy to  inform you that some of our members are grateful for this rear privilege and opportunity to walk this far because they know what it is to have sound health.
“The icing on the cake is that we are equally having fun while embarking on the health walk” Akodu concluded
