Ebonyi State Police Command has repelled an armed robbery attack along Abakaliki–Enugu expressway, G-Hostel axis as one of the robbers was gunned down during an exchange of gunfire, while others ran away with injuries.
Items recovered from the hoodlums include, AK47, double barrel gun, Toyota Sienna car, and charms.
According to they spokesperson of Ebonyi State Police Command, SP Chris Anyanwu, who confirmed the incident, it occured at about 3:30pm on Wednesday.
He said one of the robbers was killed by the police officers during the attack.
“Our men were attacked while on stop-and-search duty along Enugu expressway, G-hostel axis in Abakaliki at about 3:30pm this afternoon.
“When the hoodlums shot at our men, they responded and were able to gun down one person.
“Others among the robbers escaped with bullet injuries. The hoodlums operated with a Toyota Sienna Bus.
“The guy shot was still alive, but died at Alex-Ekwueme Federal Teaching Hospital, where he was taken for treatment.
“Our men recovered two guns, that is one double barrel gun (locally-made) and one AK-47. We also recovered some charms from the hoodlums,” he explained.
