Nurses in General Hospital Sabon Tasha, Chikun Local Government Area of  Kaduna State have began an indefinite strike following a year long blackout in and around the health facility.

A visit by our correspondent to the health center after nightfall revealed that nurses and other supporting staff on duty had to improvise by using the light of their mobile phones as substitutes for electricity, a situation the health workers said would not be condoned henceforth.

A nurse who pleaded for anonymity explained to our correspondent the genesis of their travails, saying trouble began way back in August 2022.

“When the transformer servicing the centre located opposite KRPC Quarters developed fault and became unserviceable.

“Weeks have grown into months and it’s now one year of darkness in the hospital to an extent we have to use phone torch lights to stitch women after deliveries and perform other essential duties.

“If this facility were privately-owned,  it wouldn’t have been neglected like this.

“The hospital management has several times written to the state ministry of health for their action and intervention, but to no avail.

“As last resort, we have decided to withdraw our services untill power is restored to the hospital, “she said.
