*says 12,000 athletes registered so far

As the 22nd National Sports Festival (NSF) gathers steam, the Commissioner of Sports Delta State, Charles Aniagwu has emphasized that they remain kings.
He expressed this, when briefing the press at the Media Centre of the NSF, Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba on Saturday December 3, 2022, where he disclosed that so far, 25 events have been concluded.
“Other teams are praying to come second. We want them to compete further to stimulate us. Fact remains, Delta remains kings,” he said.
The commissioner speaking further, said that they are impressed by the cooperation they are getting from athletes and officials
“What we appreciate more is the cooperation we are getting from athletes and officials.
“We thank those of you making it possible for those to know what is going on here,” he said.
According to him, they are looking forward to ending this on December 10 in love, unity and progress.
“We are looking forward to hosting Nigeria and all of you anytime you come to Delta,” he added.
On how many athletes are at the games, he said that so far, 12,000 athletes are taking part at the festival with the number expected to rise before the closing ceemony.
“The numbers may still increase this is because some that are having games on the 7th may have other engagements as elite athletes internationally and would come later.
“This is not a time to tell you fully how many athletes took part in this games because some are still registering,” he said.
He advised all teams to channel challenges at their various camps to organisers, through camp commandants.
On welfare of Delta athletes, he said that the Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa is a man of action.
“The athletes know this and they know there is a bond between him and them. The athletes have also continued to make us happy.
“Be rest assured, we will not disappoint our athletes even as they have not disappointed us,” he said.
