Ahead of the Kaduna North Local Government Chairman Soccer Cup, a one-day seminar for coaches of participating clubs,  held at the Asaa Pyramid Hotel on Tuesday June 21, 2022.

Declaring the workshop open, Executive Chairman, Kaduna North Local Government Area, Honourable Mukhtar Baloni said that his administration is committed to grassroots sports development.

He said Kaduna North LGA has its focus on human capital development.

“We have done it largely without corporate sponsorship.

“There are three parts to this competition, this is first, there will be the draws before the competition,” he said.

According to him, each team participating  will have two sets of jerseys.

“We want to use it to showcase talents in our LGA.

There will be scouts to discover players both locally and hopefully internationally.

“We want to ensure at the end of the day, only the best teams will emerge victorious.

“We intend it to be a biannual competition, so we can have it every six months. We hope when we get sponsors, we might increase the teams to 32 and hopefully start a league,” he said.

Speaking further, he  said that they hope to rehabilitate football facilities at LEA Kawo and others.

Worried by lack of Kaduna State team at the NIgeria Professional Football League (NPFL), he said that  they are working on getting other LGAs in the state but into sponsoring a team for the state at the national league.

On how they will recruit.players for Kaduna United FC, he said they will only go for the best.

“Once you attach sentiments, you might likely fail, so we hope to get the best players,” he stressed.

He said the LG Council is not just focusing on football, but they are also planning to develop  basketball, athletics, hockey and others.

“I welcome you to this training and I really hope it  will lead to improved development of sports not just on the LGA, but the entire state,” he said.

No fewer than 16 football coaches attended the workshop.
