UBO Declares Idowu Rasheed  April Boxer Of  Month

 Universal Boxing Organisation (UBO)  has conferred  ‘Boxer of The Month’ award  for April 2024 on  Nigerian boxing sensation, Rasheed Idowu, following his remarkable victory in a highly controversial bout in Accra, Ghana.

In an official letter  addressed to the Nigeria Boxing Board of Control (NBB of C)  General Secretary Remi Aboderin, UBO Vice President David Maizner, lauded Idowu’s exceptional performance against his Ghanaian opponent Bastie Samir whom he knocked out in the second round of their African Light heavyweight bout held on Saturday  April 13, 2024  at Kawakude Park, Nima, Accra, Ghana.

According to the statement by the boxing body made available to NNsports, “Rasheed put up  a wonderful performance, defeating his more experienced opponent Bastie Samir by spectacular second round knockout.

“Unfortunately controversy followed, but justice was eventually done and we are proud to call  Rasheed our champion. I can furthermore inform you that our team decided this week to declare Idowu Rasheed as the UBO ‘Boxer of the Month’ for April 2024.”, concluded the statement.

Meanwhile, the General Secretary of NBB of C who also doubles as the President of West African Boxing Union (WABU), Remi Aboderin has declared the award as a good one for Nigerian professional boxing noting that his board will continue to do all in it’s powers to ensure that the country’s boxers get to the peak of their career.

He however,  advised Rasheed Idowu to see the award as a challenge to do more in boxing just as he expressed hope that the boxer from Francis  Aiyegbeni Boxing Club Ibadan has what it takes to be a worthy champion.
