BAYO AKAMO, Ibadan

The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Oyo South Senatorial District,  Barrister Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli on Friday, alerted that local government administration is dead in Oyo State for now under the present government.

Barrister Alli who raised the alarm in Ibadan while featuring at the Oyo State Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Correspondents’ chapel, said for now, local government areas exist only on paper under the Governor Seyi Makinde present administration in the state.

He stressed that local government in Oyo State under the present administration, cannot do anything because they are existing only on the paper, saying, “it is a known fact that local government is dead in the state, because they cannot execute any project on their own.

“It is a known fact that local government areas are dead in Oyo State. This has been admitted by the governor. He gave them N10million and he said that they did not do anything with it.”

The APC Senatorial candidate added, “we had local government areas during Lam Adesina, Chief Rasidi Ladoja, Chief Adebayo Alao-Akala and even Abiola Ajimobi and it has not been like this. Local government areas are just existing by number, they do not have any power to do anything.

“The healthcare centres are not functioning in the state, despite the fact that certain amount of money are budgeted for primary healthcare. People are now taking malaria to UCH. Something that should be treated at the primary healthcare centres, because local government areas are not functioning.

“The local government cannot do anything, as far as I am concerned, there is no local government in Oyo State, they are just existing on paper.”

Speaking further, Barrister Alli said as far as he is concerned, there is the need for local government autonomy in the country for them to be more effective and functional, saying, ” I will support local government autonomy when I get to the National Assembly.”

Emphasizing that he is the best among the Senatorial candidates in Oyo South Senatorial District for the February 25 elections, Barrister Alli said he has the required  experience to represent the  well at the Senate.

“I want to attract more federal presence to Oyo South Senatorial district. All the Senators that have represented the district have tried and I am going there to do better. I know what our people need. I live with our people and I know what they need”.  He declared.
