Katsîna Police Rescues 72 Victims, 562 Livestock  From Bandits

 Katsina State Police Command has rescued 72 kidnapped victims and recovered 562 rustled animals from February 1 to 29, 2024 in the state.

However, within the period under review, the Command  arrested

13 suspected armed robbers,  12 murder suspects, 19 suspected rapists and arrested 42 others for allegedly, committing various offences such as criminal force, intimidation, inciting disturbances and belonging to  gang of brigands.

The state Commissioner of Police, CP Aliyu Abubakar Musa disclosed the achievements while addressing press conference at his office at the command’s headquarters in Katsina Metropolis.

The Commissioner who spoke through the command’s Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police, ASP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, said in the last Month of February, 2024, 59 cases of major crimes such as armed robbery, kidnapping, culpable homicides and cattle rustling were reported to the command, while 88 suspects were arrested and 49   cases were charged to Court.

On the arrest of  20 years old

  Mustapha Abba of Malumfashi Local Government Area in the state, a suspected notorious car thief, in connection with a case of theft of a motor vehicle, he said it was on the “20/2/2024, at about 0800hrs, a report was received at Area Command Funtua, through one Nura Hussaini’m’ of Kasuwar Mata Quarters Funtua, that on the 19/2/2024, at about 2030hrs, he parked his motor vehicle, the Golf 3 Saloon, with registration number USL 31 AG, at the front of his house with the above-mentioned address and discovered it stolen from where it was parked the following morning.”

 CP Aliyu said upon receipt of the report, operatives were promptly drafted to investigate the circumstances leading to the disappearance of the motor vehicle.

Consequently, he said during the course of the investigation,

 the suspect was tracked and arrested at Zaria road, Kano local government area in possession of the suspected stolen vehicle. 

“During the course of interrogation, the suspect confessed to the commission of the offence and further stated that he conspired with one (1) Aliyu Haladu,’m’, aged 38, of Kasuwar Mata quarters, Funtua, and one (2) Ashiru Ibrahim,’m’, now at large, to commit the offence. Efforts are on to arrest the fleeing suspects as the investigation proceeds,” the CP further disclosed.

Similarly, in a collaborative effort between the Katsina State Police Command and the FCT Police 

Command has led to the arrest of three (3) suspected notorious kidnappers, namely, “Hassan Ibrahim aged 25 years old, (2) Ibrahim Ishaq’m’ aged 33 years old, and (3) Shafiu Shuaibu’m’ aged 30 years old, all of Takabawa village, Kurfi L.G.A. of Katsina state.”

The suspects according to the Katsina State Police Commissioner met their waterloo when they were arrested on February 22, 2024, by operatives of the Galadimawa Divisional Headquarters of the FCT Command based on credible intelligence.

He explained that, in the course of investigation, tje suspects confessed to being part of the syndicates terrorising Safana and Kurfi local government areas in Katsina State. 

 “One of the suspects, Hassan Ibrahim, confessed to the crime and further confessed to having conspired with the following persons: (1) Gajere’m’, (2) Bishir Tsagera’m’, (3) Tsalha Haladu’m’, (4) Dikko Ummaru’m’, and (5) Haladu’m’, all at large, to carry out attacks on some villages in the state, such as Ummadau, Tsaskiya, and Zakka villages, where they rustled animals. Efforts are made to arrest the fleeing suspects as the investigation proceeds,” CP Musa emphasized.

  Furthermore, on the arrest of four (4) suspects in connection with a case of theft of motorcycles, the Katsina State Police Commissioner said it was on “February 25, 2024, at about 1200 hrs, based on credible intelligence, detectives attached to the command’s anti-kidnapping unit succeeded in arresting (1) Hamza Abdullahi, m; (2) Nazifi Saidu, m; (3) Yakubu Dan-malam, all of Gachi quarters, Kankia LGA; and (4) Shamsu Sani,’m’, of unguwar Malamai Charanchi LGA, Katsina State, suspected notorious motorcycle thieves.”

He reiterated that, nemesis caught up with the suspects when information on their nefarious activities was received by men of the anti-kidnapping unit and the suspects were traced and arrested in possession of three (3) suspected stolen motorcycles. 

 “During the course of the investigation, a search was executed at the house of one of the suspects (Hamza Abdullahi), and cases of suspected stolen motorcycles, popularly called rubber rubber, and exhaust were recovered during the search,” he said.

Accordingly, CP Aliyu Abubakar Musa said the suspect confessed to receiving stolen motorcycles from one “Ahmed Yusuf,’m’, now at large. Similarly, Yakubu Yusuf also confessed to having received seven (7) stolen motorcycles from one Babawo, also now at large, and disposed of them through one Bangis of Rimin Kebe, Kano State, who in turn obtained fake receipts from one Shamsu Sani to brandish to intending buyers. assuring that,” investigation is ongoing.”
