No fewer than 22 clubs from across the country have signified interest to participate in the rescheduled Pinnacle Open amateur tournament, billed to tee-off at the Kaduna Golf Club on Saturday.
The two-day tournament which is being sponsored by Pinnacle Communications Limited, was earlier postponed after the tee-off at the prestigious Kaduna Golf Club (1921) on April 1 2017, to honour the sponsor, who lost someone close to him.
According to a statement signed by the Chairman of the Organising Committee, Adamu Garba, the two-day rescheduled 18 holes stroke play golf tournament is expected to attract more participants than the cancelled edition due to the grandeur plans at the cancelled edition.
“Clubs invited but not limited include: Ikoyi, Golf Club, Ikeja Golf Club, Dolphin Golf Club, Ibadan Golf Club, Ilorin Golf Club, Ekiti Golf Club, Otukpo Golf Club, Tradoc Golf Club Minna, IBB Golf Club, Jonathan Ebele Golf Club, Jaji Golf Club, NDA Golf Club, Wuyep Golf Club, Zaria Golf Club, Katsina Golf Club, Kano Golf Club, Bauchi Golf Club, Rayfield Golf Club, Lamingo Golf Club, Dutse Royal Golf Club, etc.
“Prizes over two days of play shall include in three Categories of four prizes for Men, four prizes for the Ladies Categories and four prizes for the Veterans Categories. There are also special prizes for Longest Drive and Nearest to the Pin for men and women on holes to be determined by the organizers,” the statement said.
It explained that activities that will take place at the event include the arrival of guests on Friday for pre tournament cocktails, main golf event over two days and a closing ceremony that shall have the presence of the Executive Governor of Kaduna State, His Excellency, Malam Nasir el-Rufai in attendance.
“His Highness, The Emir of Birnin Gwari, Malam Zubairu Jibril Mai Gwari II, The Chief Host Sir Lucky Omoluwa, Chairman Pinnacle Communications limited, members of Kaduna Golf Club board of Trustees etc. Chief Mike Okpere as Captain of Kaduna Golf Club shall be the Resident Host,” it added.
“The club is looking forward to a very successful tournament and the pleasure of hosting over 300 golfers from all parts of the federation,” it concluded.
