The All Workers Convergence (AWC) and the Movement Against Unemployment, Underemployment and Destitution ( MUD) on Sunday urged Nigeria youths to end the prevailing Yahoo Yahoo internet fraud in the country..
In a statement made available to journalists in Ibadan jointly signed by the AWC Convener,Comrade Andrew Emelieze and the MUD National Coordinator, Comrade Rasak Oseni, they  condemned the increasing wave of Yahoo Yahoo and ritual killings in the country.
” We condemn in strong terms the ritual killings and the Yahoo Yahoo internet fraud and we call on our youths to end Yahoo Yahoo internet fraud now. We call on our youths to organize themselves and demand for employment and social security rights instead of the dangerous venture of fraud”, it said.
The groups added, “there is also the urgent need by Nigerians to start showing resistance to hardship currently pervading our society.”
According to the group’s, ” the recent pronouncement by the Minister of Interior, Mr Rauf Aregbesola,  who blamed parents for the rise in ritual killings, internet fraud and other vices especially among our youths should be a course for concern among every right thinking Nigerian.”
” What Aregbesola has said tantamount to blaming the victim and a deliberate attempt to exonerate the Nigerian government and it’s rulers from the problems they have put Nigeria into.Ordinarily, one would have hoped for a comprehensive response by government to address the ugly surge of the get rich syndrome among our youths, which we have seen in the rise in internet fraud popularly called Yahoo Yahoo and the ritual killings connected to our youths. Rather, as usual of the propaganda of this government, what we hear is the blame game and passing the bulk”.
The groups stressed, ” what Aregbeshola did not tell us is that apart from the parental factor as being one of the  causes of crime among our youths, is that poor governance and massive corruption among our rulers has adversely affected our national psyche and sociology, which has resulted in the behavioral pattern observed today amongst our youths and the entire populace which confirms that people are products of their “
” Over the years, it has been a case of massive unemployment, massive corruption and the impositions of gambling to the Nigerian society, Aregbesola did not point out all these as part the factors encouraging increase in crime in our  society. Rather, the Minister would make us feel guilty for the problems he himself is one of the causes.”
The groups however observed that ” what we have experienced from the Minister of Interior is a wake up call to act now and stop tolerating bad governance , else the fault will be put on us.”ENDS.
