Fleeing Suspected Hoodlum Loses Wrist As Police Apprehends 5 Others

Police operatives in Lagos have arrested five suspected armed robbers, with the recovery of a severed wrist of one of them who fled from the scene.

Our correspondent exclusively gathered that the suspects were apprehended by detectives attached to Badia Police Station at Ajeromi Primary School, where they were hibernating, having fled the scene of the attack.

Jamiu Dauda, leader of the notorious gang with some criminal charms recovered from him.

It was gathered that various types of charms were recovered from the suspects, whose ages range between 20 and 24 years.

They were identified as Jamiu Dauda (a.k.a Fogo), 22, Adebayo Monday, (a.k. a white), 24, Obinna Vincent Okafor ( a.k.a Omo-adugbo),23, Lucky Olanayo, 20 and Henry Akpan, 22.

As learnt, the recovered wrist was chopped off by an irate mob that gathered to rescue the victims.

The suspected hoodlums, numbering about 25 were said to have attacked some traders of Hausa extraction under the Iganmu bridge in Apapa-Iganmu LCDA area of the state.

It was gathered that the incident occurred at about 7.30pm on Thursday, when there was less trading activities.

Armed with different dangerous items, the suspects, said to have operated in commando style, were alleged to have dispossessed the traders of huge sum of money, mobile phones and other valuables.

A source told our correspondent that the attacked lasted for about 30 minutes, adding that the gang briskly fled the scene with their loot towards Ajeromi Primary School within the neighborhood, before the arrival of Police operatives from Badia Police Station.

The source, who preferred anonymous, informed that the detectives who arrived the scene almost immediately, gave the robbers a hot chase and apprehended five of them within the Primary School.

Jamiu Dauda ( a. K.a Fogo), said to be the ring leader of the gang has been on the wanted list of the Division and others.

It was also learnt that the suspect was part of the hoodlums that looted the Orile Police Station and set it ablaze during the Endsars crisis in 2021.

Efforts to get the comment of the Police Public Relations Officer of the Command SP Benjamin Hundeyin proved abortive as he neither pick his calls nor reply message sent to him.

However, an impeccable police source confirmed the the report of the incident to our correspondent.

His words, ” At about 19.30hrs,  we received a distress call people were seen running hekter skelter, that some boys numbering about 20, weiding dangerous weapons such as machetes, dagger, broken bottles and other weapons. Immediately we mobilised and went after them. They succeeded in robbing some Hausa people before we got to the scene. 

” We saw one Mohammed Sanni, a trader who deals in electronics. He told us that the hoodlums came in a commando style and attack them with dangerous weapons and in the process, they robbed them about 20 handsets, various sums of money and other valuables. He also told us the direction in which they went, which made us to go after them and in the process, five of the suspected armed robbers were arrested namely Jamiu Dauda (a.k.a Fogo), a notorious armed robbers who has been on our wanted list and other Divisions. He is the ring leader and 22years old, Adebayo Monday (a.k.a white), 24 years old, Obinna Vincent Okafor (a.k.a omo adugbo) 23years Lucky Olanayo, 20years and Henry Akpan, 22years.

” Unfortunately, one of the suspects was captured by the irate mob, beaten mercilessly and his left hand severed as he managed to escape from the scene before the arrival of the police. 

” The severed was brought to the station, where other suspects identified as their member by name Sodeeq (a.k.a Sogbe)”.
