The Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno has advised the people of the state to engage more in farming in order to produce food to sustain thier families, saying, agriculture remains the solution to addressing the current food scarcity.

According to Governor Eno, for anyone to be confrontational with government at any level as a solution, would not solve the harsh economic situation currently plaguing Nigerians.

He spoke on Tuesday, during the official launch of his wife’s pet-project, Golden Initiative For All (GIFA) in Uyo, which coincided with her 57th birthday anniversary celebration.

Eno said that the state government has initiated programmes in agriculture, including bulk buying of foodstuff by government from nearby markets to the state and resell them at a control price in the state.

Governor Eno explained that when everyone takes advantage of the rich soil the state is blessed with to support government programmes, they will produce food to sustain families.

He directed the Ministry of Agriculture to activate machineries towards attaining food sufficiency, in addition to the bulk-buying plan of the State government.

It would be recalled that the state government has sponsored Executive Bill before the State House of Assembly on the bulk buying plan, which has passed through second reading for possible passage by the Assembly soon.

Commenting on his wife’s pet-project, Golden Initiative For All (GIFA), governor Eno poured encomiums on her, lauded her consistent commitment to charitable causes in her local community and church, saying God has only granted her a bigger platform to be a blessing to the larger Akwa Ibom community.

The governor, who pledged his support to the initiative, described the First Lady’s pet-project, GIFA as  laudable, that will greatly benefit the people of state, in view of the defined goals and objectives of addressing maternal and child health as well as improving environmental health.

Others are; care for people living with disabilities, gender based violence elimination, women empowerment, fight against diseases and care for elderly as well as enhancing literacy among the populace.

He congratulated the First Lady on her 57th birthday anniversary and prayed for more blessings upon her, family, and indeed Akwa Ibom people.
