Impressed by the impact the I Believe Waziri Sports Foundation Golf Clinic/Championship will be having in the state, the Commissioner, Ministry of Sports Development, Kaduna State, Honourable Idris Samaila Nyam has urged other public spirited individuals and corporate organisations to key into such noble sponsorship.
Honourable Nyam gave the charge at the opening of the four-day event at the Wuyep Lakeside Golf Club on Thursday June 2.
He said the sponsor is a Kaduna State indigene who moved to UK and is the only in PGA member from the country.
“I like to thank you for the honour you have done to us, we hope we can do this annually.
“It’s a welcome development, we like to encourage others to emulate same and engage kids. Such events take them from vices and keeps them off the streets,” he said.
Speaking further, he described golf as a great way to start.
“By the time you have done 18 holes you would have walked 9km a day, a great way to be healthy physically and mentally,” he said.
Also speaking, the sponsor and CEO of I Believe Waziri Sports Foundation, David Waziri said he organized the clinic as a way of giving back to the society.
” I am here to say thank you because nothing is given until you work for it. If you believe in yourself, nothing is impossible.
“I believe I can change people’s lives. One man cannot do it alone. I am here as a son, pleading for others to support,” he added.
Speaking further, he disclosed that he was not born with a silver spoon, but got to where he is today because he believed.
He praised the Lady captain of Kaduna Golf Club, whom he said has been a blessing to ensure the success of the clinic and tournament.
He promised not to just stop at golf sponsorship.
“I am bringing not just golf, but all sports home. They can all go to school but golf can change the perspective for life,” he said.
On part of the benefits of playing golf, he said that besides being a money spinner for professionals, it has numerous health benefits.
“It is hard to see a golfer fall to heart attack,” he added.
He thanked the Kaduna State Government and the management of the NIgerian Air Force for giving them the opportunity to sponsor the event.
On the children that were seen participating, he said they all have huge potentials.
“They all have skills and have potentials. Every kid has a hidden power, how do you tap that power is what matters.
“We are starting an academy here at Wuyep Lakeside. This is just the beginning,” he assured.
The I Believe Waziri Sports Foundation Golf Clinic/ Championship is expected to end on June 4.
