Breastfeeding: Kebbi Gov’s wife seek intervention of traditional, religious leaders

Wife of Kebbi State Governor, Dr Zainab Abubakar Atiku Bagudu has sought for the collaborative effort between government, traditional and religious leaders in the state on the need to mobilize households, particularly mothers for the importance of breastfeeding.
Speaking at the flag off of this year’s world breastfeeding week held at Aleiro, Kebbi State, Dr Zainab described breastfeeding as means of reducing burdens associated with stunted growth, chronic illness, cancers among mothers and other physical challenges.
She stated that the state ministry of health in collaboration with the stakeholders has been making efforts to improve nutrition culture through diversification from the abundant food in the communities.
Dr Zainab however commended the federal government and development partners for recent intervention of national nutrition drive launched by the wife of the President, Hajiya Aisha Buhari.
She also appealed to heath workers in Kebbi State to always work with government and refrain from practices that sabotage government efforts and investment.
President of the National Association of Nigeria Paediatric Nurses in her speech, said only five percent out of one hindered women breastfeed their children within six months.
