Adamawa State Government has made available three thousand bags of fertilizer for free distribution to returnee displaced persons.
According to a statement signed by SA Media and publicity, Macauley Hunohashi, speaking at the flag off ceremony held at the Adamawa Agricultural Development Program in Yola, Governor of Adamawa State, Sen Mohammed Umar Jibrilla Bindow, said the effort is to compliment Federal Government’s drive to enable people to go back to their farms.
The governor explained that government is also doing everything possible to ensure that all displaced persons as a result of activities of insurgents are returned to farming.
Secretary to the State Government, Dr Umar Buba Bindir, said the distribution has become necessary considering the urgent need to assist displaced persons come back to their feet once again.
He stressed that at the height of the insurgency, more than one million people were displaced, abandoning their homes and farms.
Dr Bindir appreciated the contributions of donor agencies including Food and Agriculture Organisation for providing four hundred and forty thousand households with incentives, especially in the area of agriculture.
Speaking earlier, Commissioner of Agriculture, Ahmadu Haruna Waziri, said the distribution of fertilizer to returnee displaced persons was to enable them go back to their farms with ease.
He said the gesture was with the support of donor agencies and assured that the state government is doing everything possible to cushion the effect of insurgency on the people.
