AKROIMA To Aid Improved Food Production In Akwa Ibom

The Chairman of Akwa Ibom Roads and Other Infrastructure Maintenance Agency (AKROIMA), Prince Godwin Ntukde said the Agency is targeting at opening up a minimum of 45 km feeder roads in each of the 31 local government areas of the state to enhance food sufficiency.
Ntukde who stated this during a partly with journalists in Uyo, on Monday, explained that most of the earmarked roads are the ones stretching through five or more villages to encourage meaningful living standards.
To achieve the target, he said the Agency has in the last seven months reactivated 30 ailing equipment out of 105 acquired for the Agency by the State government since its establishment in 2009.
According to him, the effort would also help in check-mating crimes due to multiplier effects including constructive youth engagement in line with the vision of the state government for a new Akwa Ibom project.
He said that AKROIMA with it mandate to bring to bear the culture of maintenance of development infrastructure in the state, among other things, has helped to reduce potholes on truck B road both state and federal.
Given the negate effect of vandals on public utility infrastructure, the AKROIMA Chairman added that the Agency has evolved plan to install a mechanism that would assist to check the nefarious activities of these vandals especially electricity installations in the state.
He reiterated that the 5-point economic agenda of industrialisation, wealth creations, infrastructure consolidation, youth empowerment and political inclusion of Governor Udom Emmanuel’s led administration called for support from all as stakeholders in development.
He however called on chairmen of the 31 local government councils in the state to liaise with the Agency in other to add value to lives at the grassroots.
It would be recalled that AKROIMA was reconstituted on the 23rd of June, 2017 by Governor Udom Emmanuel as an Agency of the state government having seven members with Prince Godwin Ntukde as Chairman to help drive the vision of the superior performance of the present administration in the area of roads and other infrastructure maintenance of the state.
