World Hearing Day: Ear Centre MD Warns Against Loud Noise

As the world celebrates World Hearing Day, which is being celebrated on March 3 annually, Medical Director, National Ear Care Center in Kaduna State, Dr. Mustapha Abubakar has called on Nigerians to avoid exposing themselves to the loud noise.

Dr. Mustapha made the call when he led administrative staff, doctors and nurses in an awareness 12 kilometers walk in Kaduna for a sensitization.

According to him, the theme of this year’s celebration is, “Hearing For Life”.

The Medical Director explained that, “We are carrying this walk in order to create awareness on the activities that we engage by sensitizing members of the public to avoid exposing themselves especially those at rural areas on loud noise.”

Dr. Mustapha Abubakar further explained that people should avoid exposing themselves to loud noise for a very long time to protect their hearing.

The Medical Director also disclosed that 60 per cent of the population is affected, adding that this depends on the age group.

Dr. Mustapha Abubakar then called on members of the public to ensure that they take measures in order to avoid losing their hearing, pointing out that whenever they notice symptoms, they should consult medical experts.
