World Book Day: Lagos Library Board Enjoins Schools/parents To Teach Mother Tongues

 Lagos Library Board over the weekend,   joined their counterparts from across the world to celebrate the World Book day, with the theme, “Indigenous Languages”.
The day which was marked inside the Adeyemi Bero hall of Alawusa Secretariat, Lagos, produced goodwill messages.
 Invited schools across the states also dramatised on the theme, “why Mother Tongue Must be encouraged in schools curriculum.” According to the permanent secretary, (OSAE), 

Mr. Adeniran Waheed Kasali, representative of the Special Adviser on Education, Barrister Tokunbo Philip Wahab, he urged all schools across the states and by extension the country to imbibe the teaching culture of local languages during class period.
“This we must take a cue from countries like, India, China, Pakistan among others were their mother tongues has been their source of development today. 
“Therefore our schools should now allow this to take the center stage of their teachings,” he stated.
In his welcome address earlier, Director Library Board, Lagos State, Oyadipe Asimiyu Amoo, commended the Lagos State Government for throwing its weight on the subject matter, saying this will  go a long way in recognising, developing and boosting the economic accordingly. Other present were, 

Mrs Folashade Salako, representative of the Permanent Secretary, PMO, Dr. O.A. Aina, Director, Agency For Mass Education, Ms. Kalesanwo.Director, Admin and HR, OSAE, Mrs. Oluranti Fadipe, and 

Mr. Taiwo Bogunjoko,  Retired Director, Library Board.Also present were, Mr. Richard Mammah, President, Network of Book Clubs and Reading Promoters in Nigeria, 

Mr. Oladipo K. Paul, an Author, Ms. Josephine O. Ogufere, an Author, Ms. Funmi Ilori and  CEO, iRead mobile Library NetworkMr. Olubayode Treasure -Olawunmi.

Highlight of the day, witnessed the presentation of school bags and books containing Nigeria’s indigenous languages to the 12 invited schools from across the six districts of the state, namely:
District OneShasha Community Senior High School, Alimosho.Iju Senior High School Ifako Ijaye
District TwoUnited Senior High School, Ikorodu.Ojota Senior High School, Ojota.
District ThreeEko Akete Senior Grammar School, Lagos Island.Girls’Academy Senior School, Lagos Island.
District FourBirrel Avenue Senior High School,Sabo Yaba.Sari Iganmu Senior Secondary School,Apapa.
District FiveOjo Senior High School,OjoTin Can Island Senior High School,Ajeromi.
District SixIsolo Senior High School,IsoloIkeja Senior High School, Ikeja.
