Woman, 4 Others Arrested Over Vandalization Of Enugu Electric Cables In Ebonyi

A woman who serves as a sales girl at a scrap shop at Automobile Site, whose name whose name was given as Ogechi Umoke and four others have been arrested over vandalization of Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) cables in Ebonyi State.

According to the Ebonyi State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Chris Anyanwu, Ogechi who hails from Ukwuakparata, Izzi LGA was arrested with four other boys while vandalizing and stealing EEDC armoured cables and installations at Amalekwuna Ameka in Ezza South LGA.

He said the criminals conspired and went to Ameka where they vandalized EEDC transformer and other electronic cables, but luck ran out of them as the crack squad of the police command arrested them.

Others arrested are, Nwonu Ugochukwu, Nwegu Ikechukwu, Okemiri Michael and Onyekachi Igwe.

 “The Crack Squad of Ebonyi State Police Command has arrested part of a syndicate of criminals who specialize in vandalizing and stealing EEDC armoured cables and assorted other electrical installations. 

“On 9/07/2022, the criminals conspired and went to Amalekwuna Ameka in Ezza South LGA and vandalized EEDC transformer and other electrical installations thereto, carting away armored cables yet to be estimated in monetary terms.

“On 11/07/2022, led by intelligence, the Crack Squad of the Command arrested the following persons in connection to the crime.

“Onyekachi Igwe ‘m’ 35yrs – the owner of a white bus with Reg. No. AWK 173 XC with which the exhibits were collected. He hails from Inyimagu Amuzu in Ezza South LGA.

“ Okemiri Michael ‘m’ 33yrs of Ndiegbe Village in Igbeagu Izzi LGA.

“ Ogechi Umoke ‘f’ 21yrs – a sales girl at the scrap shop Automobile Site Abakaliki. She is a native of Ukwuakparata Izzi LGA.

“ Nwonu Ugochukwu ‘m’ 18yrs – Sales person and an indigene of Inyimagu Onuebonyi, Izzi LGA.

“ Nwegu Ikechukwu ‘m’ 21yrs from Agbaja Unuphu.”

Furthermore, the CP warned all those who still flout the order on Prohibition on use of Siren, Non-factory fitted tinted glasses and Covered Vehicle number plates were advisee to refrain from such conduct or stand the risk of being apprehended and prosecuted.
