The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has chosen 27th of April, 2017 for the commencement of the voters registration exercise in Kaduna State, which is expected to be flaged-off at Kudan Local Government Area on Thursday.
This declaration was made by the Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, Alhaji Abdullahi Kagauma during the 1st Quarter Stakeholders meeting at the INEC office in Kaduna.
Speaking during the meeting, Kagauma said that the exercise is one of the mandates of the commission to ensure itch-free exercise without any bias.
He however explained that the essence of the exercise is to allow those who are just clocking 18 years and also those who have not registered in the past to get registered so that they can participate in the forthcoming elections. While speaking, Kagauma stressed that the exercise is expected to begin at INEC local government area offices across the state, saying that the exercise shall start from 9am to 3am of every working days.
According to him: “We are not going to use ad-hoc staff for the exercise but we are going to use our staff throughout the exercise, explaining that the exercise shall last from now till 2019.
Kagauma urged stakeholders to mobilize and encourage people to participate in the exercise.
“We have sufficient and experienced staff that can work effectively for the benefit of the public,” the Resident Electoral Commissioner said.
Speaking at the event, INEC Administrative Secretary, Mr Nick Dazang urged the stakeholders to rally round the commission for a better operation. He boasts that INEC is up to the task of ensuring that nobody is denied of his or her constitutional right to vote in the forthcoming elections.
