US Bureau For Humanitarian Assistance Team To Visit Benue State

There are clear indications that Benue State Government will be playing host to United State Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance following the setting up of a nine- man committee whose membership comprises the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and Benue State Emergency Management Agency (BSEMA), to coordinate the expected visit.

The Acting Executive Secretary of the State Emergency Agency, Mr James Iorpuu who disclosed this while addressing humanitarian stakeholders and other partners in Makurdi, said the Rwandan based US Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance body is expected to visit Benue State to see ways of possible intervention in the humanitarian crisis that has bedeviled the State .

According to the BSEMA boss, the delegation which is expected to arrive the state on 29th January would meet with top government officials, humanitarian stakeholders as well as visit six Internally Displaced Person’s, IDPs, camps across the state.

He explained that the biometrics verification data exercise earlier conducted in the state by the IOM, have started yielding positive results both at the local and international level, expressed optimism that the visit of the BHA delegation to the state would also bring good tidings.

The State Emergency Agency boss who commended the commitment of Governor Alia administration to ensure that Internally Displaced Person’s, IDPs, living in camps are moved to their ancestral homes solicited for support from local and international partners.

Director General Bureau for International Cooperation and Development, Anderson Anchel in his brief address assured development partners that the present administration is ready to work, affirming that its has thrown its doors open for meaningful engagements in addressing plight of the IDPs in Benue State.
