Nigeria Association of Muslim Law Students , Ahmadu Bello University Chapter has conferred leadership award of excellence on the senator representing Kaduna Central, Senator Shehu Sani for promoting good governance and interest of the masses in the senate.
According to the Law Students, Senator Sani was considered for the award based on his antecedent and present contributions to end the insurgency in the North East and better the lives of the people.
The President of the association, Bukar Sulaiman said members of the association have been following the human rights activism of the Senator and the award is meant to ginger him to more and for him to remain steadfast in the face daunting challenges and distractions.
While tasking Sani to continue to work harder in the upper chamber of the National Assembly to support laws that will promote peace and development, he observed that a good leader such as the Senator always put the plights of the poor and teeming masses at heart as “leadership is all about making good decision that help better lots of the citizens”.
Responding after receiving the award at Kaduna Civil Rights Congress Office, Senator Shehu Sani thanked the group for the leadership award and promised to use his position as a lawmaker to influence and promote good governance at all levels.
While urging the student lawyers to promote love, unity and togetherness to help deradicalise young Muslims in the society, he assured them that the award has further encouraged him to support the President Muhammadu Buhari led government to end the insurgency in the North East.
Sani used the occasion to condemn recent statement credited to Bishop Mathew Hassan Kukah relating Boko Haram to Sha’ria law. “It is wrong for Bishop Kukah to relate insurgency to Sha’ria law. It is also wrong for him to zero in on Muslim leaders in the north as responsible for the insurgency in the North-East of Nigeria” he stressed.
He noted that both Muslims and Christians are victims of the insurgency where they killed people in Churches and in mosques across the North. The Senator noted that the lethal weapons of terrorists do not discriminate against any faith nor ethnic group just he asserted that Muslims in the North are far larger victims of the groups misguided acts. He reiterated that there is no correlation between the activities of Northern leaders and the Boko Haram insurgents.
