Safe School Initiative: NSCDC Enumerates Achievements, Pledges More Commitment

The School Safety Initiative programme of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has drastically reduced insecurity in schools nationwide, the NSCDC Commandant General Ahmed Abubakar Audi has said.

The initiative, introduced with the formation of the Special Female Squad ( SFS) by the Commandant General was inaugurated by the Honourable Minister of Interior Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola

 Audi, gave the hint while presenting a keynote address at the 2022 Education Summit of the Education Writers’ Association of Nigeria (EWAN) held at Ijakadi Hall, Radisson Blu, Ikeja, Lagos

Delivered by the Commandant of Lagos State Command Edenbu Okoro Eweka, the keynote address centred largely on the school safety initiative of the Corps, through the rigorous and intelligent activities of the Special Female Squad ( SFS ).

He explained that the initiative was introduced to serve as School Campaign Vanguard and play Advocacy roles, amongst other things in a bid to educate students and teachers, on the issues of safety and security, either in schools or out of schools.

The public relations officer Lagos State Command DSC Abolurin Oluwasegun made the disclosure in a release made available to journalists in Lagos.

“NSCDC’s School Safety Initiative, has drastically  reduced insecurity in schools, through out the nation, with the formation of the Special Female Squad ( SFS ), by our amiable, indefatigable, sagacious, sedulous and erudite and intuitive scholar and  Commandant General, NSCDC, CG Ahmed Abubakar Audi, PhD, mni, OFR and the immediate inauguration, of the Squad, by the Honourable Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Adesoji Aregbesola, after the Squad, had graduated, from a highly organized, paramilitary re – training, at the National Headquarters and all other State Command formations of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in the federation,” the Commandant said.

He also analytically, gave  a brief statistical appraisal of schools in the country, the roles and achievements of the NSCDC, towards safe school initiative in Nigeria, with the view to eradicating cultism, kidnapping, rape, bullying, hooliganism, drug abuse and other heinous crimes often seen amongst our school children nationwide.

However, the panel session, which was moderated by the Chairman of EWAN, Mr. Mojeed Alabi, to also further deepen the discussion, was preceded, by intellectual, resourceful, emphatic and realistic speeches, from invited dignitaries, which include; the representative of the Executive Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo – Olu, the representative of the Comptroller General,  Nigeria Immigration Service, the Director of Senior Secondary School Education of the Federal Ministry of Education, Vice – Chancellor Designate , University of Lagos and the  representative of Head, WAEC Nigeria.

Highpoint of event was the presentation of a plaque to the  NSCDC  Commandant General as  a symbol of appreciation, in form of plaque.

 The Commandant reiterated the unflinching commitment of the CG towards safe schools in the whole states of the federation, without leaving any stone unturned.
