The International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) Zaria Branch has began its maiden FIDA Week with a walk from High Court, GRA Sabon Gari to Emir of Zazzau’s Palace.
Speaking after the walk, the branch Chairperson, Dr. Lateefat Bello said, the purpuse of the walk is to enlighten the general public on the aims and objectives of (FIDA).
She said, the association is out to help women and children in ensuring their rights are protected, particularly the case of rape and defiling.
According to her, FIDA is providing free Legal services to such victims and they also encourage girls that were raped to understand that it is not the end of their lives.
The Clchairperson lamented that the increasing rape cases particularly in Zaria City is something to worry about, as between February to April 2022 there were 21 rape cases.
Dr. Bello also said, in their efforts to transform and sensitize communities, FIDA will establish an empowerment centre in order to encourage rape victims to overcome the stigma.
She sought for Zazzau Emirate’s support towards successful establishment of the empowerment centre.
On their arrival at the Palace of Emir of Zazzau, they were received by the Secretary to the emirate council, Mal. Yusuf Abubakar Hayatuddeen and he promised to deliver their request to the emir when he returns from journey.
