Power Fluctuation Leads To  Death Of 11 In Zaria

The Kaduna State Fire Service, Zaria area office has confirmed the death of 11 people resulting from an electric power  fluctuation  in three communities around Gwargwaje area of Zaria Local Government Area.
Speaking on the incident, the Zaria area officer of the fire service, Malam  Umar  Muhammad said, the incident occurred around 1.00.am on Wednesday and one house was burnt completely, while some business premises were also destroyed.
Our correspondent who visited the area,  learnt that many people were admitted at different hospitals as a result of the injuries they sustained when the incident occured.
Speaking on the incident, the Mai Unguwar, Malam, Shu’aibu, Police Barracks, Gwargwaje,  Alhaji  Bature  Aliyu said, the power fluctuation  affected all the  houses of the three communities, the  Police Barracks, the New Layout Unguwar  Major Aliyu and New Kauran  Juli layout.
He said,  electricity was restored late in the night with full force, which resulted to the incident that trapped all the communities as all the transformers, High tension and service lines were on fire.
“Anywhere you touched was shocking until when the power was out off from the source,” he explained.
In a statement issued by the Head, Corporate Communication Kaduna Electric, Abdulazeez  Abdullahi, he  expressed  sadness over  the incident which affected its customers at Police Barracks distribution transformer in Gwargwaje Zaria.
He said, preliminary investigations revealed that,the incident was as a result of High Tension line snap on the low tension line, which resulted in voltage supply outside limits.
According to the statement, the source feeder was immediately opened on emergency to avoid further damages.
He said Kaduna Electric expresses deepest sympathy to the families who  encountered losses as a result of the incident.
They expressed  gratitude to the emir of Zazzau,  Malam  Ahmed Nuhu  Bamalli  for his support to all in managing the effects of the incident.
