Police Arrests 46 Cultists In Kwara

A criminal conspiracy involving cult activities, has resulted in the arrest of 46 suspects in Kwara State.

It was gathered that on April 13, 2024, a disturbing incident unfolded in Ilorin as suspected cultists carried out a fatal shooting, resulting in the death of Adelodun Farouq, a resident of Eleran Compound.

A statement from the Kwara
State Police Command informed that the victim was buried following Islamic customs before police intervention.

Initial investigations point to Abubakar Gobir, a member of the Ayee confraternity, as a suspect.

Later that night, reports emerged of further cult-related violence in Ile-Alawo Compound, Center Igboro, where an unidentified group attacked Abdullahi Alao, a motorcycle rider, causing a severe head injury. Alao was subsequently taken away by his sibling, prompting a search led by detectives.

The following day, April 14, 2024, additional incidents of criminal conspiracy involving suspected cultists erupted in various areas, including Baboko, Ile Onimago, Adabata, and Eruda. Miscreants engaged in violent confrontations using weapons like broken bottles and stones, resulting in the blockade of Baboko Road.

The situation was swiftly addressed by the DPO C Division and six patrol teams, with support from community policing, leading to the apprehension of 46 suspects.

Out of the arrested individuals, 14 were connected to recent cult activities in Ilorin. Peace has been restored in the affected areas, roadblocks cleared, and residents can resume normal activities.

CP Victor Olaiya psc(+), the Commissioner of Police, urged citizens to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious behavior to the authorities.
