Labour Party (LP) Governorship Candidate for Kaduna State in the forthcoming 2023 general election, Hon. Jonathan Asake has said the party’s Presidential flag bearer Peter Obi was forced to leave People’s Democratic Party (PDP) when he saw delegates being bought with dollars.

Asake eulogized leadership virtues and integrity of Obi whom he noted couldn’t stay back in a party embroiled in moral bankruptcy and money politics.

The governorship hopeful disclosed this  at kickoff of Presidential campaign of the Labour Party of Northwest Zone in Kaduna on Wednesday 9 January 2023.

Asake urged electorate not to repeat the 2015 and 2019 mistakes of voting incompetent President who had no business being a leader and commander in chief of a great country like Nigeria, saying Peter Obi would take the nation out of her present problems if voted.

In her speech, human rights activist and one of the conveners of Bring Back Our Girls Movement, Aisha Yesufu attributed the massive awakening of youth and women yearning for Obi as President to many years of corruption and oppression of the masses by the ruling elite.

“Time is up for deceptive and lying politicians who take advantage of the poverty they put people in to spread some dollars to buy votes and perpetuate themselves and their cronies in power while the masses languish in abject and perpetual penury.

“It won’t be business as usual in next month Presidential election because the youth who have now risen above ethnic, regional and religious biases are determined to enthrone competency, integrity, accountability and personality who will ensure growth and development of their country.

“That individual is no other person than Peter Obi who is competence and integrity personified, “she declared.

The Vice Presidential Candidate of LP Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed called on voters to entrust their mandates in the candidature of his principal, Peter Obi, saying their trust would be safe with the Labour Party.

“I can assure you of the best deal if voted into power because the LP is peopled by men of integrity with the interest of the masses at heart.

“Peter Obi has a sound pedigree and unmatched antecedents in all his public engagements which I believe should be of important consideration in making your choice about who should be your leader, “he appealed.

Peter Obi who was the last to speak amidst interrupting cheers from supporters who converged on Ahmadu Bello Stadium, venue of the rally counseled Nigerians to vote in mentally and physically healthy candidates on 25 February, saying the country cannot afford another four years of ineptitude in the hand of an autopilot.

The Presidential hopeful drew laughter from the audience when he said his age plus that of his running mate, Datti Baba-Ahmed were not up to that of a candidate seeking to be President of a country with terming population of competent youth.

“My pledge to you today is to move this country from consumption to production hub, capable of creating jobs and make you gainfully engaged so you could contribute your quota to growth and development of your country.

“Kaduna was known for her textile and manufacturing industries which have now been killed by politicians to pave way for their personal enterprises at the detriment of the poor.

“We will bring back the agric sector which will rake in more money than oil so that the nation’s economy won’t be oil-driven.

“On New year’s day I was at the IDP camps, I couldn’t believe what my eyes saw of how Nigerians have been left to their fate to fend for themselves in a country of abundant resources.

“We shall address the problem of insecurity and ensure it becomes a thing of the past, “he assured.
