Oyo Assembly Approves Barrister Adebayo Lawal As New State Deputy Governor

Lawmakers in the Oyo State House of Assembly on Monday, approved the nomination of Barrister Adebayo Lawal as the Deputy Governor of the state.

The lawmakers approved the nomination of Barrister Lawal after impeaching Engineer Rauf Olaniyan from office as the  deputy governor.

Barrister Lawal was until his appointment, the Chairman of the Oyo State Housing Corporation.

His nomination was contained in a letter forwarded to the House by Governor Seyi Makinde which was read at the floor of the House 

Speaker of the House of Assembly, Honourable Adebo Ogundoyin while reading the letter from the Executive, said it was in response of an earlier letter sent by the lawmaker to the Governor dated July 18 informing him of the removal of Olaniyan from office.

The House  Majority Leader,  Honourable Sanjo Adedoyin while commenting on the nomination, disclosed that it should be favourably considered, approved and adopted in view of Barrister Lawal’s antecedents in contributing to the progress of the state.

Honourable Kazeem Olayanju, Irepo/Olorunsogo State Constituency while  seconding  the motion, urged that the House should confirm Lawal as the new deputy governor of Oyo State.

New Nigerian recalled that earlier in the day, The Oyo State House of Assembly earlier on Monday morning, impeached from office, Engineer Rauf Olaniyan as the state Deputy Governor..

The lawmakers at the plenary  impeached the deputy governor after adopting the report of the seven-man committee set up by the Chief Judge of the state to investigate the impeachable offences level against the deputy governor by the state House of Assembly.

Speaker, Oyo State House of Assembly, Honourable Adebo Ogundoyin at the sitting announced Engineer Olaniyan’s impeachment at the floor of the House after deliberation on the report of the 7-man panel of investigation.

” Having received the report of the panel of enquiry set by the Chief Judge of Oyo State on the investigation of allegations against the Deputy Governor and d adoption. The Deputy Governor hereby stand REMOVED FROM OFFICE WITH EFFECT FROM TODAY”, he said.

According to the report of the panel as read on the floor of the House of the Majority leader, Honourable Sanjo Adedoyin, the deputy governor at different intervals during the course of investigation failed to honour invitation sent to him to appear before it thereby compelling the panel to make unnecessary adjournment.
