Esteemed participants, distinguished partners, and committed advocates for open governance,

I extend a warm and inclusive welcome to each of you at the Open Budget Technical Working Group to the post-mortem of the 2024 Approved Budget of Kaduna State.

As the Civil Society Co-chair of the Open Government Partnership (OGP) in Kaduna, it is both an honour and a privilege to stand before this esteemed assembly of individuals deeply invested in the principles of transparency, accountability, and civic engagement.

I begin by appreciating our Partners (PERL, PLANE and LAFIYA, LGAM, Ihifix) for providing support for today’s engagement .

Today’s postmortem is not merely a reflection on the past but a forward-looking exploration into the nuances of our governance landscape.

The approval of the 2024 budget represents more than just financial allocations; it is a testament to the values we hold dear – values that affirm the power of informed citizens in shaping the trajectory of our state.

Our focus on the post-mortem of the budget is a testament to our shared commitment to learning from the past, refining our strategies, and ensuring that the budgetary process becomes a more transparent and participatory endeavor in the future. Through the lens of the OGP, we embrace the principles of co-creation, collaboration, and open dialogue to dissect the intricacies of the approved budget.

As we delve into the technicalities of the budget, let us not lose sight of the broader impact it has on the lives of our citizens. The budget is not just a financial document; it is a social contract that shapes the delivery of public services, infrastructure development, and the overall well-being of our communities.

I commend each participant for their unwavering dedication to the ideals of the OGP and their tireless efforts in promoting open governance in Kaduna. Your expertise and commitment are instrumental in fostering an environment where the budgetary process aligns with the principles of inclusivity and accountability.

In conclusion, I express my sincere gratitude to each participant for their invaluable contributions and the Technical Working Group for their dedicated efforts in dissecting the intricacies of the budget.

May our deliberations today serve as a catalyst for positive change, propelling Kaduna towards a future where open governance is not just a principle but a lived reality.

Thank you, and let the collaborative post-mortem analysis commence.
