NUJ Sets Up Committee To Rescue Media Houses From Negative Impact Of COVID-19 – Isiguzo

The National President of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Chief Chris Isiguzo on Saturday hinted  that a committee has been set up by the union  in conjunction with MPAN to rescue media houses from the negative impact of COVID-19.

 
Chief Isiguzo made this known while addressing journalists at the Oyo State NUJ Press Centre in Iyaganku Ibadan in continuation of his campaign tour for his re election across the South West states,
 The NUJ President emphasized that in Nigeria, the media is the most affected sector by the outbreak of COVID-19 with most  media houses laying off some of their staff. 
To serve as remedy, Chief Isiguzo said , NUJ under his leadership came up with the putting in place of a committee to come up with possible way out.
” When the CoronaVirus came, the media is the most hit in the country. Most of the newspapers have to lay off their workers because they do not get adverts and other patronages. I can tell you that a newspaper do not have staff again, I will not tell you the name, but they have made their staff as freelancers”, he said. 
Chief Isiguzo added, ” as a remedy, we have set up a committee in conjunction with MPAN and NUJ to rescue media houses from sacking workers. The committee is headed by the publisher of Business day newspaper. We believed that if such thing happened, it is not the professionals that should be affected”, he said.
The NUJ President while assuring journalists in Oyo state of his readiness with his team to continue to move the union forward solicited for the union members for his re election at the forthcoming NUJ 7th triennial delegates conference holding in Umahia next month.
Chief Isiguzo stated that the union would ensure a free and fair delegate  conference, saying, ” efforts have been made to ensure a hitch free conference in Abia state next month”.Chairman of the Chief Isiguzo campaign team, Comrade Amos Dunia while speaking urged members of the Oyo NUJ to embrace and give their total support for the NUJ President in the next month delegate conference.
Comrade Dunia described Chief Isiguzo and his team in the coming delegate conference as tested and trusted leaders capable of moving the NUJ into its rightful place.
The Campaign team Secretary, Mrs Bimbo Oyetunde while presenting the team’s campaign posters to Oyo NUJ Chairman, Comrade Ademola Babalola urged the Oyo NUJ council to support the Chief Isiguzo reelection project.
Oyo NUJ Chairman, Comrade Ademola Babalola while welcoming the Chief Iziguzo campaign team on behalf of the state  NUJ members lauded the NUJ President for his positive impacts on the union in the past three years.
Comrade Babalola while emphasizing the need for a leader like Chief Isiguzo as the NUJ  President stressed that it is glaring that Chief Isiguzo is capable of doing more in the next three.
