*As Edo Train Passengers Regain Freedom

The management of Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has called on members of communities residing along railway corridors to be security conscious.
NRC also asked communities to report suspicious movements within their localities to the nearest security agencies or their community vigilante for quick intervention.
The corporation said that doing so is the surest ways and means of keeping the society safe and protecting government infrastructure.
NRC’s Deputy Director, Public Relations, Mahmood Yakub, stated this in a news release titled, “Edo Train Attack, All Passengers Freed,” which he issued on Thursday 19th January 2023.
The deputy director assured that NRC will continue to support the security agencies towards improved efforts at protecting the corporation’s facilities and installations, including the stations, trains, track and especially the passengers for the continuous use and safety of train passengers.
NRC management confirmed that the abducted train passengers at Chief Tom Ikimi Railway Station, Ekekhen in Igueben, Edo State have all regained their freedom and have been released to their respective families.
“This feat is highly commendable as none of the victims was hurt or injured during their period of captivity,”, Yakub wrote, stressing: “We also wish to express our appreciation to the security agencies, state government and all those who contributed in one way or the other towards the release of harmless and innocent citizens for their effort.”
NRC described the Edo train station incident which happened on Saturday 7th January 2023 as “dastardly and wanton act of kidnapping innocent and law abiding Nigerians in a display of cowardice that must be condemned and not be tolerated in any guise.”
The railway corporation pledged that all hands must be on deck to ensure the security of life and property of all Nigerians.
