Nestle Nigeria Plc has began the second phase of its Community Scholarship Scheme for youth in its host communities.

The company said the scholarship project is positioned to enable deserving students of those communities attain their educational and personal aspirations through financial sponsorship.

They pointed out that the programme is aligned to Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG4), in order to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities.

“In a nation with high youth population like ours, it is clear that communities cannot thrive if they fail to offer a future for younger generations.

“Nestle Community Scholarship aims to contribute towards creating a future for youth by preparing them to participate in industry.

“The focus on science and technology is deliberate to build much needed local capacity,” Mrs. Victoria Uwadoka, Corporate Communications and Public Affairs Manager of Nestle Nigeria PLC, said while speaking at an event to introduce Nestle Scholarship Scheme in Agbara, Ogun State.

She said that the management of Nestle was pleased to announce the extension of the scheme to deserving youths in Agbara.

“The scholarship awards cover the cost of tuition, accommodation, uniform and books for the duration of beneficiaries’ studies so long as they attain the minimum required academic performance each year,” Uwadoka clarified.

In a news statement issued on 26th July 2022, titled, “Nestle Nigeria Restates Commitment to Promoting Youth Education in Her Host Communities,” Bola Audu, Corporate Communications Specialist, Nestle Nigeria PLC, wrote that the scheme is in two categories, namely: Senior Secondary and Tertiary.

Audu pointed out that the scheme will grant funds to cover tuition, accommodation, uniform and other expenses for the duration of beneficiaries’ education in the respective categories.

The company in the statement highlighted several factors that limit access to quality education such as inadequate infrastructure, lack of opportunities, accessibility and affordability.

“The Nestle Community Scholarship Scheme seeks to help bridge the gap by providing financial support to help youths complete their science and technology studies in secondary and tertiary categories,” the corporate communications specialist declared in the statement.

The scheme was launched in year 2020 for the host communities of the company’s factories located at Sagamu Interchange, Ogun State and Abaji in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

At the present time, the scheme has been extended to include the host community of Nestle’s third factory in Agbara, Ogun State.
