Katsina State Command of the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) said it has intercepted 72 kilogrammes of cannabis sativa, popularly known as Indian hemp in the state.    

Commandant of the agency in charge of Katsina State, Mr Mohammed Bashir disclosed this while  briefing journalists, where he said, the indian hemp was intercepted at an illegal motor park around Danmarke village in Mani Local Government Area.

He explained that the exhibits were concealed in a drum, wrapped like second- hand clothes bale in a vehicle conveying scrap metal from Lagos.

 He disclosed that, “following intelligence report, we monitored them to where they were loading the exhibits and they were intercepted by our operatives.”

He said so far, the NDLEA has arrested seven suspects in connection with the exhibits, and investigation was ongoing. pointing out that, the suspects would be charge to court appropriately. 

He further hinted that, the command has also seized no fewer than 183 bottles of cough syrup with codeine being conveyed from Zaria to Katsina, adding that, the command and its operatives are always ready to discharge their responsibilities to ensure reduction of supply and demand of the illicit drugs in the state.
