Ahead of 2023 general elections in Ebonyi State, the gubernatorial candidate under the platform of  Young Progressive Party (YPP), Engr. Opoke Sunday has reiterated his commitment to give Ebonyians dividends of democracy, saying that his 7-point agenda is directed towards human capital development.

He also pledged to revive night life in the three senatorial zones of Ebonyi State if elected.

Engr. Opoke who disclosed this to newsmen in Abakaliki, stated that  his 7-point agenda is  targeted at human capital development which can be achieved by creating an enabling environment for businesses to thrive across the state, which shall pave way for wealth creation.

He further explained that human capital development is all about welfare and security, adding that lack of money is not poverty, but lack of mental development is the worst form of poverty,  because the person lacks knowledge and creative ingenuity to bring innovation and create wealth, which is one of the reasons why some people face difficult challenges and return back to poverty because they are mentally poor and have nothing to offer.

“My 7-point agenda, is directed towards human capital development because governance is about welfare and security.

“When we talk about Human Capital Department, even God himself has designed it in such a way that poverty is a choice. All you need to do, is to develop all parts of your body to be useful and that is Human Capital Development.

“So, all we need to do, is create an enabling environment;develop your head, your hands, and leg to put food in your table.

“The second aspect of it is that our poverty, is not cash poverty but mental poverty and that is the worst part of poverty and that is what we have.

“People have become councilors, LGA chairmen, House of Representatives members and Senators and later came down to poverty. What happened? What happened is mental poverty and not cash poverty.

“When a man leaves office and gradually moves back to poverty, he is simply a poor man originally. He moves to where he belongs to. The poverty is not lack of money, but mental poverty.

“Why we want to solve that problem is that we are not competing favorably with other state,” he stressed.

The guber candidate while outlining his 7-point agenda, said gospel revolution is the first in his agenda, having seen that in the past, gospel and religion combine together in most countries, because both of them are in tripod of human existence and  can’t be separated.

He further added that he will bring companies that will work day and night in all the three senatorial zones to ensure night life, and also ensure civil service reform, create an environment for entrepreneurship to thrive and send 50% of  youth abroad to go and acquire skills with the technology attached to it, for economic growth and development of the state, noting that he has sent seven persons to Dubai to acquire skills and are all are doing well in their various areas of specialization.
