Police authority in Lagos has been charged to re- strategise and evolve tactics to tackle the menace of cultism in the state.

A Lagos based  renowned media practitioner, Mr. Wole Odunsi gave the charge in a chat with New Nigerian Newspaper on the sidelines of a ceremony of award of excellence conferred on the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Badia Division, CSP Ayoola Olawole in Lagos.

Odunsi, publisher of National Express Newspaper, noted that cultism is still rampant in some remote areas of the state, such as Ikorodu, Ogijo,  Ijede, Imota and Agbowa.

He disclosed that some cult members struck penultimate week in Ogijo area of the state, killing some of their rivals and escaped to Ogun State.

Odunsi therefore, urged the Lagos State Police Commissioner Idowu Owohunwa to urgently devise plan to ensure the crime is completely nip in the bud during his reign as did  by CP Imohim Edgal to ” Badoo Cult”  gangsters during his reign.

However, he applauded the police boss for the feat achieved since assumption of office, asserting that there has been  considerable improvement in crime reduction.

” There has been considerable improvement in the reduction of crime and criminal activities in the state , the Commissioner of Police Idowu Owohunwa is doing a lot of work in securing Lagos and presently people can sleep with their eyes closed. So there is general improvement of security in Lagos, ditto for his predecessor.

” However, cultism is still more rampant in Ikorodu, Ogijo,  Ijede, Imota and Agbowa areas because few weeks back some people were killed, the boys did it successfully and ran back to Ogun state. So, the Lagos State Police Commissioner needs to do a lot in that regard in combating cultism in the remote part of the state.”.

Commenting on the honour conferred on CSP Olawole, the media guru said the cop was being honoured for his sterling performance in crime bursting and control.

He explained that the decision was arrived at in recognition of his monumental and outstanding efforts in combating crime and unflinching contribution towards sanitising the society of bad elements and as a way of encouraging him to do more.

“We met with the CP last week and he commended his sterling performance, the Area Commander Area “B” Apapa applauded his bravery and gallant achievement and cohensive leadership quality. He said Ayoola is one of the best materials in Area “B”, that is why we are honouring him.

” The award is in recognition of his monumental  and outstanding efforts in combating crime and unflinching contribution towards sanitising the society of bad elements. This informed our decision to honour him as a way of encouraging him to do more”, he said.
