Lack Of Nutritional Practices Has Devastating Effect On Human Growth, USAID Warns

In order to broaden the knowledge base of members of the public on the importance of nutritional practices in human body for proper growth and development of the people, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), has organized a One–Day Workshop in Afikpo LGA of Ebonyi State with a call to always eat nutritional foods that will keep them well nourished and healthy.

The workshop which had the presence of selected stakeholders from Edda and Afikpo took place at Afikpo Local Government Council Hall.

The Executive Chairman of Afikpo Local Government Area, Hon Uchenna Nnajiofor Ibiam commended USAID for the proactive steps they have taken to deepen people”s knowledge on the imperatives of good nutrition in the Body System assuring of his commitment in promoting strategies that would advance the welfare of his people

The council boss who was ably represented by his Vice, Hon (Mrs) Josephine Chinwe Nwogo, urged the people of the two local government areas to embrace the habit of eating nutritional foods for quality growth and healthy living even as he called on relevant stakeholders to join hands to end malnutrition and undernutrition in the society.

Speaking, the State Coordinator of the Programme, Hon Uchenna Onwe disclosed that the essence of the workshop is to broaden the knowledge base of members of the public on the importance of nutrition to the body, adding that lack of proper information on nutritional practices has devastating effects on the growth of the people both physically, mentally and otherwise.

He explained that the programme is in line with the directives of the Federal Government that every local government area must have a committee on food and nutrition to be headed by vice chairmen of the councils, while LGA desk officer of the programme will serve as the secretary.

He therefore, charged members of the committee in Afikpo and Edda local government areas to be proactive in the discharge of their duties.

Responding on behalf of the members of the food and nutrition committee, its chairman for Afikpo Local Government Area who is also the vice chairman of the council, Hon (Mrs) Josephine Chinwe Nwogo thanked USAID for finding them worthy to serve in such sensitive committee and assured of their preparedness to justify the huge confidence reposed on them.

The workshop which ended on a very happy note, had in attendance the principal officers of the council and traditional rulers.
