The Speaker of Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Aliyu Umar Yusuf was a cynosure among Speakers of Assemblies in Nigeria at the 2023 Speakers’ Conference held in Abuja where new leadership emerged.

Being a first time attendant to the event owing to being a first time speaker, Rt Hon Yusuf’s leadership qualities instantaneously hit the entire conference with many lobbying him to broker understanding for their emergence in the various positions they vied for.

His role was obvious to all as he received pats from his colleagues upon the pronouncement of the new leadership.

To him, the event was an avenue to network and ensure unity among heads of parliaments in states of the country.

He also sees the conference as an opportunity to work  closely with his colleagues across the country on how best to take the arm of government forward and attract development to states of the federation.

In his usual modesty however, the speaker’s reaction is more of giving accolades to his colleagues for their show of best parliamentary practice for Africa, saying he had learnt a lot in the course of the programme.

To him, democracy was in its finest form during the entire meeting and process of leadership emergence.

In his words, while congratulating his Oyo State colleague for being elected as the new Chairman of the Conference, he said the possibility of growth among Nigerian parliamentarians through the organisation is huge.
