Kaduna State Government has approved the appointments of 35 boards of sports associations in the state.
Inaugurating members of the boards at the VIP Hall of the state’s Ministry of Youths, Sports and Culture, Murtala Mohammed Square in Kaduna, Commissioner of Sports, Hon. Daniel Amazu Danauta charged various members of the sports’ boards to try to revitalize sporting activities in the state.
Mr. Danauta said Kaduna State Government was encouraged by the enthusiastic response and intimidating credentials of members of the new boards “who will pilot the affairs of Kaduna Sports Associations hence their appointments.
The Commissioner reminded them that the National Sports Festival to be hosted in Calabar, the Cross River capital is only five months away “and it is expected of you to immediately start preparations and have your athletes in place for the task ahead.”
Danauta said the ministry was aware of its responsibilities in providing funds when required and associations must also provide enough notice whenever the need to collaborate with the ministry arose.
“I seize this opportunity to implore the new boards in the state to harness all efforts in the respective sports in order harmonize and monitor emerging talents.”
He added that the state’s sports potentials should be nurtured even as the process required collaboration to succeed.
Engineer Musa Nimrod, while speaking on behalf of the associations’ chairmen, said though they appreciated what the present government in the state was doing for sports development, however pleaded that the token allowances meant for program athletes should be given a priority now that the sports festival is around the corner.
