Kano Electric Gets New Head Corporate Communications

Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) has appointed, Alhaji Sani Bala Sani as its new head of Corporate Communications.

Alhaji Bala Sani replaced Sani Shawai who is now heading a Kano based private radio station.

His appointment according to a signed statement by the Management of KEDCO was part of the “new Management’s efforts of realigning the company’s workforce for improved operational efficiency and corporate effectiveness.”

The statement said Alhaji Sani Bala Sani was charged to drive management’s renewed commitment towards improving the organisation’s corporate visibility and brand reputation necessary to restore the company’s battered image through enhanced communication strategy.  

The statement explained that   prior to his appointment, Alhaji Bala  Sani was a Senior Manager and Head, Special Consumer Group (SCG) whose job role was to oversee KEDCO’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), championed the provision of social services to the poor and vulnerable communities, which birthed an era of unflinching support to women in Dausayi, Dausara and Dankunkuru villages in Kano State. 

The statement further disclosed that, Alhaji Sani  also led in providing succor to the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps in Kiyawa, Jigawa State and panshekara, Kano all in his desire for improving KEDCOs corporate image and objectives of customer centricity. 

 It reiterated that, “Alhaji  Sani Bala’s versatility in CSR and PR activities was instrumental to KEDCO’s emergence as the winner of the 7th African Power sector award, organised by the African Power and Energy Elites, POWERGEN Africa and African Utility Week, whereby Kano DISCO beat Safi Analytics and Senegalese National Electricity Company to clinch victory, in South Africa.

“Before his position as the Head of Special Consumer Group, Sani had worked as acting head of communications for five years, where he laid the foundation on which the unit thrived post-privatisation of the DISCOs. During this period, he deployed potent communication strategies and policies with which KEDCO sailed through the rigors of transition,” the statement said.

Alhaji Sani Bala Sani was a graduate of Usmanu Dan-Fodio University, Sokoto and University of Salford, in Manchester, United Kingdom holds a BA in Linguistic, majored in English and MA in International Relations and Globalisation.

The statement maintained that, the new head of KEDCO Corporate Communications, Alhaji Sani Bala Sani was expected to rebuild on his past successes of repositioning and realigning the unit with the company’s corporate vision, mission and core values.            

A member of Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Alhaji Sani Bala Sani attended many PR and communication trainings especially with Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria (APCON), notably, crises communication for corporate leaders, digital media marketing for strategic positioning, Strategic communication for 21st Century Managers among other leadership trainings, the statement added.
