The Kaduna State Government has signed Memorandums of Understanding with Basscomm Nigeria Limited and Eneriv Power Limited to provide solar power to  civil servants as a clean and affordable alternative source of electric power under its Solar-For-All programme.

The Honourable Commissioner of Finance, Shizzer Nasara Bada who represented His Excellency, Senator Uba Sani, the Governor of Kaduna State at the signing, said that the initiative is in line with Governor Sani’s pro-people style of governance and commitment to seeking climate friendly sources of energy in the face of environmental challenges.

“In the SDG Goals, the provision of clean energy is a key factor to development. The Solar for All Programme is a brilliant initiative of the Kaduna Power Supply Company to make life easier for our dedicated civil servants. It is our hope that we can expand this initiative to other residents as well, as it is all about accessibility to affordable energy,” the commissioner said.

A statement from the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Kaduna State, Muhammad Lawal Shehu on November  15, 2023, said that, “Nigeria is blessed with excess solar power that we have not tapped into. It is time that we look at renewable energy due to climate change,” it added.

The Solar-For-All Programme aims to cater for over 70,000 public servants in the Kaduna State Civil Service. Through the programme, eligible workers can purchase high quality solar systems for their homes, small businesses or farms at stipulated rates with a payment plan of three years.

Additionally, these solar systems will be installed safely by certified solar energy providers to ensure compliance with international best practices and standards.
