JOHESU/AHPA Nationwide Strike Grounds Services At ABUTH

The nationwide strike embarked upon  by the Joint Health Sector Union (JOHESU) and Assemblies of Healthcare Professional Association (AHPA) has grounded services at  Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital Shika (ABUTH), Zaria.

Comrade Lawal Taofeeq Babsalam  branch Chairman of JOHESU/AHPA) ABUTH, said the strike action   commenced on Thursday May 25, 2023, as the Federal government refused their plethora of demands.

He said, the nationwide strike directive signed by the ,acting National Secretary, Comrade M.O.Ajerutu enjoined members to embark on a nationwide strike peacefully without confrontation.

Comrade Babsalam said, members of the union have complied totally and it was very successful.

According to him, members are tired of the way government is handling their issues over the years.

Also the union cautioned management of federal health institutions not to unduly intervene by obstructing  members  as they did not hinder or attempt to stop NARD members who were on a recent five days warning strike.

The national body strongly enjoined the Heads of Departments of all clinical departments which utilize interns cadre to respect the spirit of professionalism which forbids interns cadre from assuming full professional responsibilities as the management of some HIS attempted to do in previous discourse.

Accordingly, the national body directed union members to communicate all challenges, clarifications and suggestions to the situation room as they arise during the strike.

The directive also urged the union leaders to be updating and communicating all salient information with regards to the strike.
