Jigawa Pays Over N783m As Retirement, Pension Benefits

Retirees from the three segments of Jigawa State Civil Service, comprising the state, the 27 local government areas and Education Department have received the sum of N783,734,328.06 as retirement and pension benefits.

The payment was for those that retired from active service ranging from the state ministries and parastatals, the local government staff and their counterparts in Local Government Education Authority, from the period of July to September,  this year. 

This was disclosed by the Executive Secretary, State and Local Government Pension Board, Alh. Kamilu Aliyu Musa.

Addressing a press conference while effecting the payments, Musa said that about N373,896,638.80 was disbursed by the board this month as payment of retirement and pension benefits to 157 retired civil servants in the state. 

He gave the breakdown of 157 as retired state civil servants who received, N373,896,638.80, followed by retired local government staff, 79 and were paid N121, 224,194.93 and their total number covers 277,  paid N583,598,012.35.

Other payments were death benefits to 32 state retired civil servants who were paid N95,361499.29, 25 from the LGA’s,  paid N47,395, 172, and 15 from LEA, who received N38,800,196.00 totalling  72 and were paid N181,556,867.29, among other payments.

The Executive Secretary of the State and Local Government Pension Scheme reiterated his warning to retiree’s to distance themselves from patronising third party involvement in all matters related to their pension transactions as the board has not authorized any middlemen in processing pension issues of retirees.
