Following the incessant herdsmen attack that led to the killing of one person at Ishiagu in  Ivo Local Government Area, women embarked on protest, blocked major roads, burnt tyres, and destroyed vehicles in the area.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO),  Mrs Onome Onovewakpoyeya ,  the incident was reported on Sunday around 11:00am, when the women embarked on  protest which was planned to last for seven days because of the alleged  herdsmen killings in the area.

She stated that the women blocked major roads and went to their traditional rulers house, commissioner for information and council chairman and destroyed louvers, vehicles, flowers, amongst others to express their grievances.

She noted that the people that sponsored the protest have been identified and will soon be invited by the police.

“The protest was carried out by women and it was intended for seven days, and it has to do with herdsmen killing in the place that somebody died recently and the women were not happy and had to come out and blocked some of the roads, burnt tyres. Then, they went to the residence of the traditional ruler there; then commissioner for Information is from the place too and the council chairman.

“They didn’t burn their houses, they destroyed windscreen of vehicles that were packed there; destroyed flowers; destroyed louvers, but they didn’t burn any house there until police tactical team was deployed  and they were asked to eschew violence and those who actually spearheaded the protest, have been identified for invitation by the police.

“They said they have hunters that were attacked by the herdsmen in the bush. Our attention was called about the protest yesterday around 11:00am., “she said.
