The Association of Water, Well Drilling Rig Owners Practitioners (AWDROP), has urged the Kaduna State Government to implement its law on the drilling of boreholes to safe lives.
The Vice President, North West of the Association, Alhaji Abubakar Musa Machika gave the advice when he led members of the association to present a communiqué on their recent national meeting in Ibadan, Oyo State to the Kaduna State Water Services Regulatory Commission.
“We are here to intimate the Commission on the outcome of our congress meeting in Ibadan, Oyo state. “We come to the regulators because we are working together”, he explained. The Vice President emphasized that water is life and it shouldn’t be compromised by individuals or governments. Alhaji Abubakar Machika noted with concern that some people encourage quackery by looking for cheap drilling of boreholes without considering the implications.
”We have different materials and you cannot get standard borehole without standard casing and standard drills.
“They go round to speak with five companies to sample price but people need to know the difference between quacks and professionals”, he said.
The Association’s Zonal Vice President warned people to desist from drilling boreholes closer to graveyards, abattoirs, socker ways or culverts to avoid using contaminatated water.
In a remarks, the Zonal Secretary of the Association, Alhaji Hashimu Yahya Maijama’a appealed to the Commission to embark on sensitization campaign to educate the public on the danger of patronizing quacks while drilling boreholes.
”Many people prefer cheap material to quality material,  many people would not want to do geophysical survey to pick suitable spot before drilling their borehole”, he noted.
The Zonal Secretary commended the State Government for establishing the commission to regulate all issues surrounding water. On his part, the Chairman Kaduna State Chapter of (AWDROP), Hon. Suleiman Tanimu said the only solution to quackery is for people to go for professionals who would do quality job instead of quacks that would use cheap sub standard materials.
Responding, the Acting Executive Chairman Kaduna State Water Services Regulatory Commission, Shuaibu Maisamari reminded people that there is law in the state which says before one drills a borehole, he must seek permission.
He warned that there are rules and regulations guiding the drilling of boreholes, and that any who goes against them would be sanctioned.
