Almost 24 hours after, the Kaduna State Police Command has confirmed the killing of two police officers and abduction of two foreigners from Canada by kidnappers in Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The PPRO Kaduna command, ASP Aliyu Muktar who spoke to the Guardian in an interview said the security details attached to the foreigners were killed during a shootout between them and the kidnappers, but no news has been heard from their abductors.
While speaking , he said ” It happened yesterday around 7 pm as they were coming from Kafanchan to Abuja.
“As am talking to you , the police command are doing everything possible to to save the abducted persons. The commissioner of police has directed the assistant commissioner of operations to immediately go there. The anti kidnapping unit has already dispersed to mount surveillance . other special task force are also there. “
Asking whether there was any ransom demanded before the the captives could be released, he said ” contact has not been established yet, and no demand is made.
“We are doing everything to rescue them , and we will rescue them alive,” he assured.
New Nigerian learnt that the foreigners went to Kafanchan to inspect a project being handled by their company.
A staff of the company who did not want to named, said the Canadians, along side the two police escort had left Kafanchan heading to Abuja through Kagarko when they were ambushed by the gunmen.
According to him, “The Canadians were in Kafanchan to see a project, but on their way back, they they were ambushed by gunmen who opened fire on them. The two policemen were killed while the Canadians were abducted”. the source.
Similarly, an indigene of the area said the gunmen ambushed the vehicle of the two foreigners along the Jere-Kargarko road at about 7pm on Tuesday night while they were returning to Abuja from Kafanchan.
According to him, the two policemen who were attached to the vehicle were shot dead during an exchange of gun fire with the gunmen, who later took away the two foreigners to an unknown destination.
